Top 4 Reasons to Use a Plant Based Protein

Among the various types of protein powders available today, plant based proteins are growing the fastest! Why is that? There are a couple of factors that make plant based proteins rise to the top in the crowded world of protein powders. Here are our top 5 reasons to use a plant or vegetable based protein.

1   Sustainability

The number one reason to switch to a plant based protein: Sustainability. All protein powder or supplements that are not plant or vegetable based, are made with animal products, mostly proteins derived from cow milk. A recent study by a research team from Penn State revealed some startling facts about water usage in the animal agricultural industry. According to the study, it takes roughly 122,800 gallons of water to produce 1 ton of dairy product. While it takes only 11,300 gallons of water to produce 1 ton of vegetables. That’s a massive difference. Also, the number one crop is grown not for human consumption, but for cow and pork feed. Scientists estimate that by the year 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in countries with absolutely no source of clean drinkable water. Around 75% of Americans consider themselves to be environmentalists… If you want to help our environment and preserve our clean water supplies, start by switching over to a vegetable or plant based protein powder, and forget about that wasteful whey.

2     Health

Our second reason for switching over a vegetable or plant based protein is your health! Plant based proteins are full of awesome vitamins and micronutrients that help keep everything running. Unlike most whey, casein, or other animal proteins, vegetable proteins have natural fiber in them, which has shown to be a major contributor to a healthy gut biome and overall well-being. Some plant based proteins, like Green Peaks, will include powerful anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories such as Turmeric and Black Pepper extract. While plant based proteins help your body with anti-inflammatories, anti-oxidants, and other natural super foods, animal based proteins do the exact opposite. Products made from dairy have the reverse effect on our bodies, dairy causes inflammation and other very serious health issues. In a research article published by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, it was revealed that consumption of milk and other dairy products contributed to Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, and Alzheimer’s; while also linking Dairy consumption and Ovarian, Breast, and Prostate Cancer.  There are no studies linking consumption of healthy vegetables to these diseases. If your health is important to you, ditch the animal based protein and go with the vegetable protein.

3      Benefits Your Body After Working Out

Our 3rd reason to take a veggie protein, is the great benefit it provides your body after a tough workout. If you are exercising, your body will need extra nutrients in order to recover. When we exercise, our muscles endure micro tears, a natural process resulting from the elevated physical stress. Our body then uses protein and other nutrients like amino acids, to repair these tears, and strengthen our muscles so we may be better prepared for such exercises in the future. Proteins and amino acids are very important nutrients that our muscles use to recover. Taking a plant based protein supplement ensures that your body is getting all of the nutrients it needs to recover from a workout, without the negative side effects of an animal based product.  A plant based protein supplement, with a complete amino acid profile, high protein content, and branch chain amino acids helps you achieve the maximum benefit from your workout.

4     Environmental

Our 4th reason is the unacknowledged truth regarding where dairy products come from and the ethics involved. The truth is that the dairy industry is responsible for a great deal of animal mistreatment and suffering. From a lifetime of restricted movement, to being repeatedly artificially impregnated and then separated from her children, the life of a dairy cow is not a happy one... despite the million dollar ad campaigns run by the dairy industry. There are many more dark grievances that the educated consumer can find with this industry, I encourage you to look into it on your own. My purpose here isn’t to upset you, only to offer you the opportunity to be an educated consumer. A rapidly growing population of athletes and outdoor enthusiasts are choosing plant based veggie proteins because they are not only great for your body, but for your consciousness as well. People are waking up to the pain that these industries inflict, and making the choice to switch to products that don’t result in animals suffering. Switching to a plant based protein powder is a great place where you can start minimizing your use of animal products while also increasing the quality of the supplements that you consume.
